Qualcomm Campus Building AY

Qualcomm’s Pacific Center Campus was designed as a deeply sustainable and transformative campus from a vehicle-oriented development to a pedestrian-oriented campus environment. The overall campus design weaves together natural, free-flowing spaces with refined, public-spirited environments, which defines the new campus vision.

The AY building, situated at the southern entrance to the Pacific Center site, is state-of-the-art, progressive, and deeply sustainable. It is one of the largest naturally ventilated buildings in the country. The design of the AY building optimizes passive design strategies to achieve high-performance results and provides a high-quality interior workplace environment. The buildings’ east/west solar orientation and narrow floor plates promote natural ventilation and daylighting, and a high-performance fagade design that controls heat gain and glare. The buildings’ cast in place concrete provides a thermal mass which contributes to the passive design strategies implemented throughout the design. The interior environment is all centered on the individual user’s day enhancing their surroundings to be more productive. The campus experience provides a dynamic social environment fostering a spirit of community on the new campus

The project was awarded the 2014 Commercial Award by the San Diego International Chapter of the American Concrete Institute, the 2015 Excellence in Structural Engineering Award for New Construction of a Large Project by both SEAOSD and SEAOC and the 2015 People's Choice Orchid Award by the San Diego Architectural Foundation.
